20 Questions...Well, 11 Actually!

You know what? I haven't been involved in a good meme for a long while now. I've been tagged in them but most of them came when I wasn't feeling too great in this pregnancy and I put them off - then it got too late.

Then, the other day the very lovely Emma from A Matter Of Choice tagged me in quite a nice 'Questions and Answers' meme which is fun to do. Emma has written 11 questions for me to answer and then I have to tag some more lovely bloggers and write some questions for them. It's a great way to get to know fellow bloggers so indulge me!

Right, here I attempt to answer Emma's questions.

Would you like to live in a different country?  Why would / wouldn't you?
Yes I would LOVE to live in the US. I've visited so many places in the States and love it so much it would be hard to pinpoint exactly where I'd love to live though.  I won't because I couldn't leave my parents and my sister who live over here (and my closest friends) - it would break my heart...plus it's really hard to get in over there!

Are you doing what you thought you would be at this age when you were a teenager?
As a teenager I didn't really think about what I'd be doing in my 30's, I think I was too busy just enjoying myself. Damn that cheap white cider!

What is your biggest addiction, and does it worry you?
I don't really have any addictions. I'm not even addicted to blogging or social media - in fact I have only fairly recently re-activated my Facebook account and I'm not on it all the time like I used to be a couple of years ago.  I don't really drink much (can't at the moment anyway) and I don't smoke. I'm pretty boring really *sigh*

Do you speak a foreign language? Would you like to?
I've mentioned on my blog before that I'd love to speak Spanish. I'd also, after visiting Italy for the first time last year, love to speak Italian. My problem is that unless I actually sign up for a course that I have to attend, I keep putting my learning off. My MIL speaks 7 languages and I'm so jealous of that.

What is your favourite holiday destination?  (either past or a 'dream destination)
Now this is a real toughie for me as I've been to some amazing places that I can't really compare. From A trip across Route 66 in America to a trip to the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights - there is no way I can choose. I have been to so many lovely places that I couldn't decide. I have just returned from Orlando and loved it but at the same time I've been to the islands of Hawaii and totally adored them. I honestly don't think I can pick. I know, I know, I'm rubbish!

What most annoys you?
A while back I wrote a post as part of the Listography about my '5 Pet Hates' and I stand by them all but bad manners and people who can't drive on the motorway really REALLY wind me up. Many a time I can be seen yelling at some idiot sat in the middle lane.

What is your dream job?
Being Gerard Butler or Ryan Gosling's personal bather. That's a job, right?

What are you looking forward to this year?
At last, an easy one! Obviously the birth of our new baby - due 3rd April. Although, someone will probably have to remind me of that when I am propping open my eyes due to sleep deprivation.

How upset would you be  if you woke up tomorrow morning and the internet had ceased to exist?
Although I'm not addicted to blogging or social media I would be a mess if the Internet ceased to exist as I use it a lot. I have a great love of the Internet as it's how I met my fabulous husband, Matt.

What day / period of your life would you like to re-live?
I'd like to go back to when Matt and I first met and re-live those first 6 months. We lived 100 miles away from each other at that point but used to see each other every weekend. I remember only about 6 weeks after we first met he went away for 10 nights to Texas and we missed each other like mad. I knew when he was due back but we weren't supposed to see each other until the following weekend. I remember being out with friends and he text me to ask when I'd be home and to stay safe. When I replied I had booked the taxi he replied "Good, as I'm at your house" (he had a key) and it was the most amazing feeling ever! He'd driven up, still jet-lagged, to see me. It's moments like that.

If you could travel in time (you know, without buggering up the space/time continuum thing) would you go forward or backwards?
I'd definitely go backwards. I'd visit all my Grandparents and spend more time with them as I feel when I was in my teens I didn't spend as much time with them as I should have. That makes me sad.

The Rules:

  • You must post these rules.

  4. If you won £45m on the Euro Lottery (like that young couple did the other week), what would you do with the money?
  5. If you weren't with your partner/boyfriend/husband/significant other (or, if you aren't with anyone right now - bonus!) and you could have one date night with someone else, who would it be and what would you do?
  6. Football or rugby?
  7. If there was a film made about your life, which actor/actress would play you?
  8. Do you prefer a wild night out or a quiet night in?
  9. Is there one television programme that you couldn't live without in your life?
  10. If you could turn back time, what would you do differently?
  11. What's your guilty pleasure?

Here are the fabulous bloggers I am tagging (apologies if you've already been tagged). I would recommend you pay each of their blogs a visit - they totally rock!

Guardian Questions & Answers

I was tagged by Jayne over at Mum's The Word today for this 'Guardian Questions & Answers' meme that's going around.

I feel guilty as I have a few memes waiting in the wings.  One from ages ago too - sorry Jenny!  I also got tagged in that damn fridge one...I'm waiting until my fridge stocks are low as it's too full to list everything at the moment.  Man I'm so lazy.  Sorry this one has jumped the queue.  I wish it hadn't - the formatting on this post has taken me forever and I almost lost my Mac in fit of rage.

Anyhoooo....this meme was born over at Mrs Lister Writes and it's basically nicked devised from the questions in The Guardian Weekend Magazine.

Here goes...

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
I've left this one till last and I still don't know.  I guess I must admire a few people. What a rubbish start eh!

When were you happiest
Other than when I had Mini Cheddar I would have to say when I was standing on a snowy mountain in the Arctic Circle in the absolute stillness of night with no-one else around (apart from my husband and Kjetil Skolgi) and the Northern Lights appeared.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Probably when I was about 19 and I snogged one of the Land Department guys at a works Christmas party. He must have been in his early 30's!  We were sat at the bar chatting and I was getting more and more drunk.  I can't remember how it happened but next thing I knew we were kissing frantically.  Then I heard MY BOSS say to MY MUM (my Mum used to work at the same place) "Look away Pauline, look away".
Most of my most embarrassing moments are down to my evil vodka twin.  Just ask my friends.

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
My car which I bought about 18 months ago.

What is your most treasured possession?
My photographs.  Just reminded me I'm long overdue a back-up. Geek alert! I had lots of photographs on my old iPhone - some baby pictures of Mini Cheddar and I don't know what happened but iPhoto didn't back them up.  My phone broke and I lost them all, I was so upset.

Where would you like to live?
That's a tough one. At this moment, I'd have to say Norway.  I love that country.  There or Vancouver.

What’s your favourite smell?
The smell of Mini Cheddar (my daughter - not the little cheesy crackers!) when we snuggle up together. That or roast beef dinner! Om nom nom.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
Oooh blimey, that's tough...I think I'd choose Emily Mortimer.

What is your favourite book?
Captain Correlli's Mandolin by Louis De Bernieres.  The first 100 odd pages I almost gave up on it but it's brilliant.  Unlike the crap film they made with Nicholas Cage.

What is your most unappealing habit?
Biting my finger nails.  Occasionally I stop but then anxiety kicks in again and I nibble at them.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
Anything 80's.  Man I love that decade.  Have I said that before?  80's, 80's and more 80's!

What is your earliest memory?
Probably seeing our poodle rolling in a dead hedgehog in the park.  I also remember the smell.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Going through Silent Sunday posts just so I can be nosey.

What do you owe your parents?
A lot. They struggled financially when my Sister and I were growing up and they went without to provide for us. They are now very financially well off and are always so generous with their love and support.

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?
To my husband for being a bitch at certain times of the month.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Obviously my husband.  Him or vodka/wine/cider.  My love for Mini Cheddar goes without saying, obviously.

What does love feel like?
It feels all squishy and warm but also all exciting and scary - it's a range of emotions but it's the best.

What was the best kiss of your life?
Definitely the first kiss with my husband.  We met online and then went out on a date.  He came back to mine and we sat on the sofa chatting.  He turned to me and said "Can I ask you a question?" So I said yes and he just said "Can I kiss you?".  He had my heart right there and then and I knew I wanted to be with him.  Now he just just grabs my boob or shakes his willy at me *sigh*

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
No. Stop it. Get down. Don't run. Don't touch.

What is the worst job you've done?
Bagging brussel sprouts.  I was 15 and I hated it.  Especially as the boss was a cock.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I don't think I'd change anything.  People often ask me if I wish I'd not married my first husband but I think that marriage has made me what I am today.  If I hadn't done all the things I've done in life I wouldn't be at the happy point I am now.  Although I do wish that after I did my CBT (compulsory bike training) I continued to pass my full motorbike test.

What is the closest you've come to death?
When I was about 3 and a biro pen pierced my throat.  The ink infected it and I was about to undergo emergency surgery when it exploded.  Think green goo Ghostbusters stylee.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Without a doubt that has to be Mini Cheddar.  A joint achievement with my husband obviously.

When did you last cry, an why?
I cried watching DIY SOS Big Build the other week.  Look, it was THAT time of the month okay?

How do you relax?
With my husbands shoulder, a good film (or some comedy), a glass of wine and some chocolate.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Some more money? A cleaner? An iPad? Some sunshine?  Do I really have to pick just ONE?

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Just be yourself - don't hide behind falseness and something/someone you're not. Also, no matter how friendly and loyal you are, there will always be a couple of nasty self-important people that are always willing to shit on you.

Now I'm supposed to tag some people, I hate doing this so I did a shout out on Twitter and these silly people said they wanted to be tagged...GO!

Why?

I was bathing my daughter the other night, as I have done alone for the past 5 weeks whilst my football playing numpty of a husband rests his broken ankle...have I mentioned that before by the way? Fnar fnar!

Anyway, every time I put the conditioner onto my daughters hair she says "Ooooh tawburry cold Mummy".  Which, in her language means "Ooooh that rather lovely strawberry conditioner is extremely cold Mummy".   It got me thinking....dangerous I know.  The thing is, whenever I condition my hair I always notice the conditioner is slightly colder than the shampoo.

Why?

Now, you're probably wondering where the hell I'm going with this post.  To be honest, I'm starting to wonder the same myself.  But, when I think about it, (my) life is full of simple unanswered questions...

  • Why do carrots taste better julienne than cut in circles?
  • Why does Coca Cola taste better out of a glass bottle than a can?
  • Why do I always need to watch a film that I already own on DVD when it comes on the TV?
  • Why does cheese taste better grated than cut in slices?
  • Why do Smarties all taste the same apart from the orange ones?
  • Why do men (ok, my husband) never replace the toilet roll on the holder?
  • Why do I get in the shortest queue at the supermarket but it goes slower than the other queues?
  • Why when I buy hotdogs does the tin always hold 8 or 10 and I can only buy a pack of 6 or 12 finger rolls?
  • Why do 99.9% of older people (or really young people) think it's okay to just pick a lane on the motorway and stay in it
  • Why do flies always bumble their way in and hang about on the small closed window, even though the large one is open?
  • Why when I've packed away the Mega Bloks (for the 50 thousandth time a day) do I always find one that I didn't spot?

I know most of these I can put down to good old Sods Law but some really confuse me...which is easily done - I wonder if I can still say I have 'baby brain' even though my daughter turns 2 tomorrow? Now there's another question!

Anyone else got any good ones that bug them?
